BackBeat PRO supports AAC and aptX, but OS X, by default, uses SBC. You need to download Hardware IO Tools for Xcode and use Bluetooth Explorer to enable those codecs.
After launching Bluetooth Explorer select Tools > Audio Options.
To confirm, hit the bluetooth icon while holding the option key.
If you use the multi-point feature, and connect it to an iOS device, choose AAC. If you force aptX, connecting to OS X and iOS at the same time introduces frequent popping sounds on your Mac and during calls through iPhone.
To use the media controls on OS X, first disable remote control service – that launches iTunes every time you hit Play or when you remove/put back your headphone.
launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.rcd.plist
Finally, to map media controls to your apps, download mac-bt-headset-fix. This brilliant app lets you control Spotify, VLC, MPlayerX, etc. via controls on your bluetooth headset. As a bonus, automatic music play/pause work for those apps too.
